Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs iPhone 6 Plus: Optical Image Stabilization comparison

Both Samsung and Apple scored a first with their new phablets: Optical Image Stabilization. That's right, both the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the iPhone 6 Plus are equipped with the gizmo, promising to minimize and correct for shake and tremor during video capture.

Sure, an OIS module's usefulness extends beyond just video – if the software is optimized for it, it'll also free up the camera to go for slower shutter speeds, and that's beneficial when shooting in dark environments, as the tiny sensor can use any help it can get taking in as much light as possible. This is achievable, because the stabilizing contraption will essentially nullify tremor in your hands (yes, they tremble even if you think you're keeping perfectly still), and thus, side-step blur. In other words, while OIS is, strictly speaking, hardware, it is of little use if it receives no proper support from the camera software.

Starting with Samsung, the company calls its particular implementation "Smart OIS", which is just a marketing term that refers to the joined efforts of the aforementioned widget and Digital Image Stabilization on the software side. Much the same arrangement is also true with the iPhone 6 Plus – OIS is implemented alongside software stabilization, which Apple chose to call Cinematic Video Stabilization.

So how do these two handle themselves, and is one better than the other? The truth is that they're about equally good in stabilizing shaky footage, but they different in terms of the kind of scenarios they handle best. For example, in our experience, the Note 4 was better at minimizing small to medium amounts of shake, while the iPhone 6 Plus outdid it when real jerky movements were involved (arguably less common). Even with that distinction, though, we still think that we have a situation close to a stalemate at our hands, but we ended up liking the Note 4 just a bit more. Take a look.

The best pure Android phones right now

Well, the wait is over, two of the most popular android phones, Samsung’s Galaxy S4 and HTC’s One, are now available directly from the Play Store running an unadulterated version of the OS. And Google says they’ll start shipping by July 9. The so-called Google Play Edition S4 and One can now be purchased without their respective manufacturer customizations for $649 and $599, respectively. So today, I have collected a list of Pure Android phones sure to tempt your inner Android purist.

1.  HTC One Google Play Edition
HTC One Google Play Edition
The current king of stock Android smartphones I think is the HTC One, not Nexus 4. The HTC One Google Play Edition's metal design is gorgeous and as everyone knows, the phone's hardware and components are top-notch. The clean Android Jelly Bean UI is refreshingly simple, and Google promises a stream of fresh updates as they happen.

The bad: The HTC One Google Play Edition comes with 32GB of non-expandable storage.

2.  Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition offers the most powerful hardware specs of any Android phone without any carrier bloatware, and with an elegantly simple Jelly Bean UI. The phone also packs a removable battery and SD card slot for extra expansion, things the HTC One lack.

The bad: Google's Galaxy S4 removes a lot of Samsung's neat software and photo features and the device cost you more than other devices.

3.  LG Nexus 4
The Nexus 4 made a great success despite the production problem. The competitively priced LG Nexus 4 delivers a pure and polished experience with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, it's powered by a snappy quad-core processor, and it's packed with new photo-editing and camera features. Thanks to its powerful specs and reasonable price, it obtained a lot of Nexus 4 enthusiasts.

The bad: The Nexus 4's construction is solid but uninspiring, its call volume is too low, and it lacks 4G LTE.

So I am curious about which pure Android phones are your favorite? Welcome to leave your comments.

Top 5 savvy ways to maximize your Samsung Galaxy S4's battery life

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is a nice phone. The device boasts a 5-inch display, powerful processor, large removable battery and is full with a series of amazing new features. All of these drain battery life quickly and sometimes, the device does not last for a day and requires charging frequently. We’ll show you a few quick tips and tricks to get better Galaxy S4 battery life.

1.  Disable superfluous features
The Galaxy s4 is packed with extras such as Air Gesture and S Voice that always draw energy, even when you're not using them. Just expand the notification bar (swipe down from the top), and tap the icon in the upper-right corner. Here, tap to disable any features you're not using, including things like GPS and Sync, if they can be sacrificed.

2.  Switch to the Power Saving mode
The built-in Power Saving feature is useful when you're already low on battery and you need to maximize what you've got left. When enabled, your phone's CPU speed will be throttled, brightness will be stunted, and the background colors throughout the system will change to save as much power as possible.

To enable Power Saving, access it through the quick settings by swiping down from the notification shade and tapping the icon in the upper-right corner.

3.  Screen Auto Brightness
The Samsung Galaxy S4′s large 5-inch HD display is often the biggest battery life user. Turning on Auto Brightness, combined with the changes made in Power saving mode, will deliver better battery life.

Adjusting the screen timeout to a low setting will also make a cumulative difference to your battery. To adjust it, go to Settings > My device > Display timeout. Choose the lowest option you're comfortable with, like one minute.

4.  The wallpaper trick
Always use still images than Live Wallpaper if you concerned with the battery life and performance. Live Wallpapers consumes both power and RAM on your device.

At the same time, you should get this: the darker the wallpaper, the less energy the S4's AMOLED display will use. To switch your wallpaper, it is easy, simply long press anywhere on your homescreen and choose a new wallpaper from the pop-up menu.

5.  Find out what's draining your battery
To access it, go to Settings > More > Battery

Listed here are the apps and processes currently running, along with their battery usage by percentage (%). The screen will always be the biggest hog (about 50 to 60 percent), and fluctuates based on brightness. Below that, you'll see standard system features and a couple built-in apps like Google Maps. However, if there's a reason why your battery is draining quickly, you'll find it here. Check back every so often to find out if there's a battery-sucking app running in the background.

Savvy tip: Buy an extra battery
Even with these tips, you can't avoid a dead battery forever. Keep an official S4 battery (not a knock-off) charged and in your bag so you're ready for a swap when the time comes.

Do you have any other good tips to recommend? Thanks for leaving your opinions.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Release Date Nears: 6 New Features You Can Expect

Samsung will officially announce its long-waited Galaxy S4 at a big press event in New York tomorrow, possibly in retaliation to the HTC One buzz that Samsung predicted might pop up, the launch is earlier than last year. As we we've gotten closer to the Galaxy S4 unveiling, a lot of news about the device has started trickling out, so we put it all in one place for you right here. Let’s go and have a look what new features that Samsung galaxy s4 may bring to us.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Release
1.  Eye Tracking:  Navigating the phone with your eyes is one of the Samsung Galaxy S4's rumored features. The new feature allows the user to scroll through Web pages, emails and other texts using just their eye movements. This feature is also expected to include “Eye Pause,” which will have the ability to pause videos when the user’s eyes move away from the screen. But a recent Bloomberg article reports that eye-scrolling (one of eye-tracking's behavioral expressions) won't make it into the Galaxy S4, but there's a strong chance that future devices could feature it.

2.  Touchless controls:  According to the report from the Korean publication DDaily, rumor says the Galaxy S IV can be controlled by touchless gestures instead of regular taps and swipes, for example, you can just answer a call by simply lifting the phone to their ear or even to click icons by hovering their finger over the screen.

3.  Samsung Wallet / Mobile payments:  Samsung has just announced its new Wallet mobile payment app at the Mobile World Congress and it looks like Apple’s Passbook feature, which allows the user to store virtual purchases such as concert tickets and airline boarding passes in their iPhone. The company also recently announced support for mobile payments via a new partnership with Visa, which will most likely roll out with the S4.

4.  Sharper Camera:  Unlike htc one’s 4-megapixel "Ultrapixel" camera, it is said that Samsung galaxy s4 also will have a higher-density, 13-megapixel camera, up from 8 megapixels in the S3, according to the people. And based on the news from tech website CNET, Samsung Galaxy S4 may have 3D camera and allowing users to take 360-degree panoramic images with their phones, may be a redesigned lens too.

5.  Wirelessly charge:  Following the steps of Nokia, Samsung Electronics is expected to add wireless charging capability to their flagship models in 2013. Samsung is expected to adopt Qi wireless charging technology run by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) for the Galaxy S IV.

6.  Hardware updates:  Samsung galaxy s3 powers with super specs and there is no doubt that the S4 is expected to ship with a speedy quad core processor, a 4.99-inch high definition AMOLED display and a 13-megapixel rear mounted camera. The device will also be available with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage and a microSD slot for additional space.

What do you expect from the Galaxy S4?

How to Get Samsung’s, LG’s Best Exclusive Features on Any Android Phone

Everyone wants a high-end smartphone that comes equipped with unique features, such as Samsung galaxy s3’s Smart Stay feature which will not let the screen turns black as long as you’re staring at the screen. LG Optimus handset lets you run apps in tiny windows on top of the desktop, while Motorola RAZR devices can perform key tasks according to a schedule. These features are really innovative.
Fortunately, you don’t need to buy a particular brand of phone to get an enhanced Android experience. There are a number of third-party apps available through the Google Play store can replicate the best custom features that Samsung, LG, HTC and Motorola have to offer.

Samsung Pop-Up Play
Samsung Pop-Up Play/ LG QSlide Alternatives
LG’s QSlide feature lets you put one or two small windows on top of your work running the browser, video player or calculator apps. Samsung’s Pop up play is the ability to watch video at the same time as you text, email, browse the web or do just about anything else on your phone.

Alternative Apps:  There are a lot of third-party floating apps in Android Market that will put windows on top of your work even though it is not as attractive as QSlide or Pop-up Play. Floating Browser Flux is a resizable browser in a window that has tabs and can be activated from the notification drawer. Super Video, Floating & Popup plays local video files in a window and support re-size, move window, two multi-windows play-back, while Floating YouTube plays streaming videos.

Floating Mail and Floating Chat promise the ability to put email or IMs on top of your work, but neither app was able to connect to our accounts. AirCalc provides a floating calculator, complete with a see-through screen. Unfortunately, none of these floating apps allow you to adjust transparency like the LG and Samsung solutions do.

Samsung Smart Stay Alternatives
Samsung Smart Stay Alternatives
It is really annoying when you’re reading something intently on your phone and suddenly the screen turns black and goes to sleep because you haven’t tapped the glass in a while? Samsung’s Smart Stay feature uses your phone’s webcam to determine that you’re still staring at the screen and reset its timeout.

Alternative:  The app called SmartStay Ex provides the same functionality, with more options than Samsung offers. SmartStay Ex keeps your screen from turning off while you are using it by scans the front camera for faces at regular intervals. If a face is found, it will keep the screen from turning off. There are many advanced options available and many more planned!

Samsung Motion Gesture Alternatives
Samsung provides an easy way to deny an incoming call by just flipping the phone over to silence it. Other Samsung motions include Direct Call, which starts dialing the phone number of a contact as soon as you lift the phone to your ear.
Samsung Motion Gesture
Alternatives: Flip Silent is a very simple free app that silences your ringer as soon as you flip your phone over in either direction. Easy Answer, which is also free, provides a host of other motion control features, including the ability to answer the phone by lifting it to your ear. However, if you want to silence a call in Easy Answer, you’ll have to shake the phone rather than turning it over.

HTC People Widget Alternatives
One of the more attractive features of HTC’s Sense UI is its optional People Widget, which displays social updates from your friends right on your device. There are several free alternatives in the Google Play Market.
HTC People Widget Alternatives
Alternatives: Taptu allows you to create custom widgets with streams from Facebook, Twitter and various news feeds. BlingBoard also provides an attractive 4 x 4 widget with Facebook, Gmail and Twitter updates, along with missed calls and SMS messages.

LG QuickMemo/Samsung S Pen Easy Clip Alternative
Both LG and Samsung provide the ability to take screenshots, draw on them with your stylus or finger and share them. LG’s QuickMemo stands out, because it lets you scribble a note on top of the screen (example: “Buy milk”) and keep them there even as you continue to use your desktop and apps below.
LG QuickMemo/Samsung S Pen Easy Clip
Alternative App: Floating Draw lets you scribble on your screen and either save the results as an image file or leave your drawing as a layer on top of the screen as you continue to use your phone. When running, the free app puts a small pen icon in the lower right corner of your screen. Just tap it, and you’re ready to scribble.

LG Live Zoom Alternative
Even the largest phones only provide between 5 and 6 inches of screen for watching HD movies. So what if you want to get a closer look at the skier slaloming down the middle of the display rather than seeing the whole mountain? LG’s Live Zoom feature lets you pinch-to-zoom in on offline videos just like you can for Web pages and photos.
LG Live Zoom
Alternatives: BSPlayer Free also lets you pinch-to-zoom in and out on offline videos. Like Super Video, the free app can also float its video player on top of other apps. The app even supports gesture controls and screenshot captures from within a video.

LG QTranslator Alternative
LG’s QTranslator app can convert foreign language writing to English (or your native tongue) in real- time via the device’s camera. More advanced than Google Translate.
LG QTranslator
Alternative App: CamDictionary also allows you to translate words in real- time just by rolling your phone over them. Available in a free trial version that unlocks more vocabulary features for $1.99, the app also has several downloadable offline dictionaries that can translate text even when you don’t have an Internet connection.

Motorola Smart Actions Alternatives
Motorola Mobility may not get any love from Google, but we’ve always been fond of the Smart Actions phone automation app Moto puts on its RAZR phones. Using Smart Actions, we’ve been able to configure our phone to automatically go into silent mode when we’re in a meeting or stop syncing data at night when we want to save data.
Motorola Smart Actions
Alternatives: For$6.49, Tasker allows you to schedule changes to your phone based on your calendar, time of day or location with a much attractive UI.

  • Processor: Samsung Galaxy S4 is said to feature a new Exynos 5 Octa CPU, with its eight cores running at 1.8GHz clock speed. It's coupled with a PowerVR SGX 544 graphics processor, with 2GB of RAM onboard. • Camera:  According the news from CNET, Samsung galaxy s4 will have a 13-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video capability, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. And According to a New York Times report Samsung galaxy s4 will include eye-tracking technology that turns your eyeballs into page scrollers. The phone will track a user’s eyes to determine where to scroll.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Rumors: Price

If Samsung follows the same plan as last year, the Galaxy S4 could cost $199 for 16 GB or $249 for 32 GB. Without a two-year contract, it is possible that Samsung could sell the new handset at $599 and $649, for 16 and 32 GB storage models, respectively, like it did last year.

Rumors: Smart Mobile Devices Samsung will bring to us in 2013

2012 is a big year for Samsung, and this extended to 2013. Last year, Samsung success surpasses Nokia to become the world’s leader in mobile phone vendor. And Today, According to Samsung's Tomorrow Flickr page, Samsung have sold more than 100 million of its Galaxy S series smartphones, including 41 million Galaxy S III smartphones, which is the world’s top-selling model for the third quarter in 2012.
Galaxy S series smartphones 100 million
Samsung showed off its amazing flexible display and 8-Core Exynos 5 Octa Processor for mobile device at the CES last week, and rumors said that Samsung is going to launch its Galaxy s4 soon, may be next mouth, and later come with Galaxy Note 3. Although at the current time we're not sure whether they can debut in 2013, lots of things can be deduced - or at least guessed. So following just let us go together to have a look at the upcoming and most anticipated mobile device Samsung will bring to us in 2013.

1. Samsung Galaxy S IV
The Galaxy S3 made a hugely success in 2012, so it is no doubt that Samsung will release its next Galaxy product- Galaxy S4. Rumors of the Samsung Galaxy IV have already sprung up as early as December last year. And according to the roadmap spotted by AnandTech last week, the Galaxy S IV is hopefully to features a 4.99-inch full HD (1080p) screen with 440ppi and will show off as early as February at Mobile World Congress.
Samsung Galaxy S IV

Based on the most recent rumors, Galaxy S4 may be runs on its new 2GHz 8-Core Exynos 5 Octa Processor, 12/32/64GB internal storage options, 2GB RAM, 13MP rear camera, 1.9MP front camera, 3200mAh battery and LTE and NFC connectivity features. And of course it will be powered by the Android Jelly Bean 4.2 OS from Google,

2. Samsung galaxy note 3
Phablet fever may be in full swing in 2013. Last week, China’s Huawei Technologies unveiled the world's biggest smartphone-Ascend Mate, which features a 6.1-inch display.
Samsung galaxy note 3
The Galaxy Note has been gorgeous successful around the world. So in order to enhance its position, of course, Samsung will introduces a new Galaxy Note 3, which Samsung believe that some refer to as the "phablet" segment.

There is nearly zero information about the Samsung galaxy note 3, the only rumors now we can hear is that the Galaxy Note 3 will be packed with a 6.3-inch screen and may be runs on the 8-Core Exynos 5 Octa Processor. Expect Samsung will devise some newer killer upgrades for the Galaxy Note 3.

3. Samsung Tizen phone
Samsung have confirmed that multiple "new, competitive" Tizen phone will launch in 2013.
Samsung Tizen phone
Thanks to Google’s android, Samsung now is a smartphone giant in the world, and Samsung want to another Apple. Samsung understands that you're vulnerable if you're entirely dependent on others, so Samsung is inching away from Android after Google acquired Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. for $12.5 billion in May. Now The Company didn’t elaborate on model specifications, prices or timeframe for their debut. So just be Patient until it appears in the market.

4. Samsung Windows RT tablets will not launch in the US
Company like Sony, Dell having unveiled their Windows RT tablets, but there is no Samsung. News from CNET have confirmed that Samsung cancels plans for Windows RT tablet in the US because retail partners don't see strong demand and because the value proposition for Windows RT isn't clear to consumers. What a pity.
Samsung Windows RT tablets

Now it’s unclear what the company's plans are for the non-U.S. markets. But at least there have a chance to wait since Samsung have not announced its plans for the non-U.S. markets. But experts is sure that Samsung could still build to opt Windows RT devices in the future, if some of the current obstacles cease to exist.

Which one is your expectation in 2013? Just let me know below!

Samsung’s 8-Core Exynos 5 Octa Processor vs Exynos 4 Quad: Your Next Phone Will Be Fast

If you had to pick one dominant company at the Consumer Electronics Show 2013, it would have to be Samsung, a Genius tech company from South Korea. Apart from the excited Youm flexible-display technology debuted at CES' closing keynote, Samsung also announces the 8-core Exynos 5 Octa mobile processor. Yes, it has two sets of quad-core processors and was designed with low power mobile devices in mind and uses ARM's big.LITTLE processing technology. It is the first amazing 8-core mobile chip in the world made by Samsung, not from NVIDIA or Qualcomm.
Samsung Exynos 5 Octa

Samsung Exynos 5 Octa:
There are two groups of four cores that can run at any given time with this Exynos 5 Octa processor.  When performance is needed, four Cortex A15 cores can handle the heavy lifting, and when doing more common tasks, you have four Cortex A7 cores to take care of things.

It is thought the first Octa processors will have the Cortex-A15 cores clocked at 1.8GHz, while at the same time the A7 cores will run at 1.2GHz. The on-board GPU has yet to be confirmed, but it is sure to offer a major graphical boost over the Exynos 4. An ARM Mali-T604 quad-core GPU is predicted.

Samsung Exynos 4 Quad:
It's a 32nm, 1.4-1.6 GHz Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 beast with twice the processing capability of the older Exynos 4 Dual, while consuming 20 percent less power. The processor also sports a full HD 30 fps video hardware codec engine which enables 1080p video recording and playback. No doubt the new Exynos 5 Octa processor must own the same function.

Samsung Exynos 4 Quad

Comparison:
Samsung says the new processor delivers twice the performance of its predecessor, Samsung's Exynos 4 Quad, which now featured in the world’s best-selling phone, the Samsung galaxy s3 and also the phablet Galaxy note 2 (plus improved graphics). That is to say new phones from Samsung are going to be noticeably faster than before.

Samsung also claimed that the enhanced processing power offered by Exynos 5 Octa processor would allow smartphones and tablets “to perform many tasks simultaneously, such as playing a game, watching an HD movie, and searching for a restaurant or business, all without lag”. Samsung also says it provides twice the 3D performance of any previous mobile processor, including the company's Exynos 4 Quad.

For short battery life, a common problem faced by most of the android phone, Samsung says that it could end up using 70% less battery life than current quad-core CPUs on the market now, as well as the dual-core Exynos 5, which currently runs on the Nexus 10. So you can read, watch, play, and write whatever you want, as long as you want.

Although Samsung didn’t reveal exactly when the Exynos 5 Octa will be available, but rumors about that it would be featured in the future high-end Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 is all around the corner. So just be patience. Let’s expect it will make its way into phones and tablets this year.

CES 2013: Huawei aims for Samsung with world's biggest smartphone-Ascend Mate

The CES Show, which brings us the hottest and newest electronics innovations, is held every year and draws a lot people's attention! This year, If there's one thing that's become quite clear at CES 2013 it's that 5-inch-plus phones are no longer strange.

Samsung launched its Samsung galaxy note 2 with a 5.5 inch display last year, and since then 5-inch or even bigger phones are starting to become common, such as HTC with the 5 inch Droid DNA, Sony’s new flagship phone -Xperia Z, and the world's biggest smartphone-Ascend Mate unveiled by China’s Huawei Technologies on Monday, features a 6.1-inch display.
Huawei Ascend Mate
So today let’s focus on Huawei’s new android phone to take a close look. Is bigger really better?

Ascend Mate runs on android 4.1 jelly bean, and boasts a 720p display. And also it has a Huawei's own Hi-Silicon 1.5 GHz quad-core processor. The highlight on this handset is the phone equipped with a huge 4,050mAh battery, which can provide 48 hours of power, Huawei says, while the Galaxy Note only has a 3100mAh battery. All of these Specs should hypothetically help it approach the snappy performance of the Note II.  Sadly the device has a typical 8MP and 1MP cameras on the rear and front, respectively.
Huawei Ascend Mate battery
Just like the Nokia Lumia 920, people can wear a glove and still use its capacitive display, called Magic Touch. And also like smartphone giants like Samsung, Huawei adding its own software spin to what Android already offers. These include a map and augmented reality combo called Guiding Wizard to get you places as well as high-speed look-up and word translation through smart reading. The phone also have a Swift Sharing function, which is supposed to let users share files even faster than S Share, offering speeds up to 150 Mbps.

Huawei's consumer business CEO Richard Yu said the company is hoping its latestsmartphones will offer an alternative for people who have to carry around their tabletcomputer, laptop, smartphone and camera all at once. So Huawei may be positioning the Mate at a lower price point.

Details about how much it will cost or how much RAM the phone comes with, Yu didn’t say. But one thing certain is that The Ascend Mate will go on sale in China in February and globally weeks afterwards (Huawei is apparently under discussions with US carriers).
So are you the one who interested in this phone? Welcome to leave your comments.
